KIBONUMWE
METEORITE I

In June 2003, after one year in Rwanda, when I was about to fly home, I played with the children of the neighborhood. We met at the meteorite, and enjoyed climbing on top and looking down into the valley.

The meteorite, a stone of maybe 3 meters diameter.

KIBONUMWE (falling star)

URUTARE (special stone)

On the other side of the valley it goes steeply up and the International Airport of Kigali extends like a bright band on the top. 17 years ago some tiny houses stood on the slope - when I return today, the valley is no longer recognizable. It is filled with villas and big estates. All surrounded by security fences. The neighborhood of Kicukiro is metamorphosed. I try to find the place where 17 years ago the beautiful shiny meteorite was laying like a diamond in the open field.
