Can you spell the leaf? / ¿Se puede deletrar la hoja? is an experimental film that explores the archive of the Royal Botanical Garden in Madrid, using linguistic and visual resources to investigate how we represent landscapes. How do you describe a landscape, a leaf, a flower, or a sunset that you are seeing for the very first time?
This project connects to a broader research on landscape representation and travel writing, specifically in the diaries of women travelers who journeyed from Europe to Latin America.
