FILM LETTERS (II)
To Nazli Dincel

2020 / Super 8mm / color / sound / 1S / 4' 04

The four films (I, II, III, IV) were part of the cycle Hay cartas que detienen un instante más la noche, curated by Sergi Alvárez Riosalido for La Casa Encendida (July 2020). The project brought together three pairs of experimental filmmakers and artists to explore the theme of distance—not only as a condition for correspondence but also as a present-day issue. Letters, as curators describe, carry layers of distance: spatial, temporal, and emotional, offering new interpretations over time.

My correspondence was with artist Nazli Dincel. Developed during the 2020 lockdown, our epistolary dialogue explored migration, dislocation, and desire. The films evolved from confinement experiences—such as playing with color within the domestic space (I), reflecting on stories connected to my mother and the garden (II), questioning blurred laboratory images (III), and exploring the fragility of the body through ceramic wrapping gestures (IV). Each film was created using a single Super 8 reel, combining voice and text to create a layered yet open-ended visual experience, treating mistakes and repetitions as integral to the process.
