" The sun is rising, the flame of a candle is glowing, the electrical impulse is heating the filaments of a bulb and the spotlights are turning on. (...) The first shapes are appearing. And if seeing were fire... an incandescence of lights and shadows doomed to fade, a precious but fleeting truth, ephemeral flashes. Its flames illuminate the world, lighting it up, touching it, and when they burn, they reduce its image to ashes. A metaphor for the fiery gaze, the never stopping movement of bodies, the metamorphosis of vision presented by the artist duo. (...) Light and time are the raw materials of their creations. The artisanal handling of analogue cameras and photosensitive film, full awareness of the system and of cinematographic gestures, determine the work, rhythms and creative processes (...) Light makes the world visible. What is perceptible deceives, but what is invisible does not exist. The hegemony of vision in modern culture. Valentina Alvarado and Carlos Vásquez work with framing, interposing filters and lenses, mechanisms of mediation between their camera and things in order to distort perception and attempt to renew the way we look". - Carolina Ciuti and Marina Vinyes
