Horizontal white lines run across the picture over a black background, synchronously with a rustling, crackling and an indefinable humming. A colored strip bursts in suddenly with a new sound, the picture changes from its black-and-white, linear rigidity to a colorful geometric patchwork, seemingly entering into various aggregate states as a reaction to the sound. A synchronous dynamic is created in which the visual and auditory stimuli determine one another, mix and are perceived as equivalents.
In her latest work, elesyn 15.625, Billy Roisz continues her exploration of possible interactions between sound and image. The raw material she uses are electromagnetic signals, and their frequencies provide the basis for colors, lines, pitches, movement and rhythm. Sounds and images are created in a completely self-contained and self-referential system; the monitor or screen becomes a space in which a method of creating visual and auditory elements and their synthesis is made visible, comprehensible.
The result is varied, playful and colorful. Despite its minimalism and total abstraction elesyn 15.625 makes it possible for the viewer to surrender completely to the material's extraordinary attraction. The sounds and images are self-sufficient, everything is left to the viewers' perception, associations and «visual work.» Humor inherent to the acoustic and visual material and a subtle form of narrative can be found, and the final product is, as Roisz herself describes it, «a diorama of 'electric synesthesia' or the idea thereof.»

elesyn 15.625 goes back to the fundaments of electronic sound and image synthesis - the electromagnetic signals, their frequencies, amplitudes which are the basis for colours, lines, tone pitch, movement and dynamics. Moving images and music are generated by "simple" forms of signal routing like acoustical and optical feedback, radio waves, bended circuits. The result is a very colourful - in the visual as well as in the the aural sense of the meaning - diorama of "electric synaestesia" or the idea thereof. (Billy Roisz)
