Ute Aurand was born in 1957, in Frankfurt, Germany. She is a filmmaker working in 16mm, a programmer and educator. She studied filmmaking at the Deutsche Film und Fernsehakademie from 1979 to 1985 and has been a central figure in Berlin’s experimental film scene since the 1980s. From 1990 to 1995, she curated the independent monthly film series Filmarbeiterinnen-Abend and Sie zum Bespiel at Arsenal, Berlin, showing only women filmmakers and in 1997 she co-founded the group FilmSamstag with monthly film screenings at Kino Babylon, Berlin (1997-2007).
