Screening introduced by Patrick de Haas, on the occasion of the release of his book Cinéma absolu. Avant-garde 1920-1930 (METTRAY editions / Editions Macula).

The term "avant-garde" has become suspicious today due to the misuse of meaning of which it has been victim: the critical, transgressive, utopian force is indeed defused by its advertising use which turns the stakes around by locking it in a separate category: the avant-garde as a genre, as a symbolic surplus value, as a mark of distinction... The artistic avant-garde as it was experienced by its actors in the 1920s cannot, however, be separated from a movement of overall liberation: not only from the academic norms locking the aesthetic field, but also from social hierarchies, bourgeois conventions, sexual norms, praise of traditions and worship of nations. Experimentation in the arts is therefore accompanied by the hope that it will overflow outside.
The selection of the films presented aims to reveal the link between the exploration of new aesthetic forms and the call for new forms of life. Adventures to be continued today.
