NAISSANCE AU MONDE
Lac des Minimes

by Dominik LANGE
2007 / Super 8 / color / silent / 1 screen / 50' 41

Speaking of an imaginary journey or a daydream, I recently noticed a very amusing artifact that emerged during the filming of one of my (already) old films made in long break exhibition or B-break mode with my Super8 camera in Paris...
It was at the Lake of La Porte Jaune, the camera (in image-by-image mode with long pause time and automatic continuous shooting) installed on a tripod (which is not usual for me...) to ensure its stability on board a tourist boat (during the autumn season anyway, but it was nice weather that day...) and leave me all latitude during the filming alone to maneuver the boat using the oars of course!
The surprise is that I had forgotten at the time to hide the viewfinder eyelet (as it should be in this specific case...) left then vacant, which had the effect of producing a double exposure in overprint on the Ektachrome film developed by hand at Etna at the time ...
A double exposure on the film of the Super8 image, the subject filmed in front of the lens and also the one in front of the viewfinder eyepiece which also served as the lens!
It is a double metaphor of the symbolism of the image somewhere, since in some way merge the lyrical abstraction of the landscape and the face of the filmer projected into this same landscape!
