MILJA VIITA is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Porvoo, Finland. Her works has been shown in contemporary art museums and galleries, her films have been screened at several international film festivals e.g. Ann Arbor Film Festival, Oberhausen Kurzfilmtage, Archivio Aperto, Festival du Nouvéau Cinéma. In 2022 she was chosen to release the 6th Contemporary Art Project by the Lönnström Art Museum with her archive-based collage film Skönärit (2025) and her film Animal Bridge U-3033 won the Risto Jarva Award at the Tampere Film Festival in 2019. Viita graduated with MFA from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts 2005, where she teaches filmmaking today. Viita has refresh her knowledge in photochemical film techniques at LIFT in Toronto 2019, and as well in The Independent Imaging Retreat Film Farm in 2018. Her second feature-length film People on Sunday will be released theatrically in Finland in 2026, making it a rare occurrence in the history of Finnish experimental cinema.
