Milja Viita is a Finnish visual artist and filmmaker, her experimental film Animal Bridge U-3033 (2018) won Finnish Film Foundation ́s Risto Jarva Award at Tampere Film Festival in 2019.
Viita graduated from Academy of Fine Arts 2005 (MFA) from Time and Space Department, where she occasionally teaches today. In 2021 Viita was selected to realise the 6th Contemporary Art Project for the Lönnström Art Museum in Rauma, Finland, with the experimental film Fata Morgana (working title)
The themes of her hand made experimental films and installation works often rises from personal experiences of existence, sometimes combined with twisted natural science observations. Viita mainly works with 16mm and 35mm formats, the depth of the materiality plays crucial role in her film practice.
