Screening introduced by Alexis Constantin (Experimental Cinema Collection Attaché of the Pompidou Center) & Natalia Klanchar (Audiovisual Collections Manager at the Kandinsky Library of the Pompidou Center)
On the occasion of the exhibition Teo Hernandez, Fragments dispersés de mémoire et de rêve at the Cultural Institute of Mexico in Paris (5 April - 31 May 2019), curators Natalia Klanchar and Alexis Constantin selected several films from the filmmakers' collective: MétroBarbèsRochechou'Art, Teo Hernandez, Michel Nedjar, Jakobois and Gaël Badaud distributed by Light Cone.
Teo Hernandez's work has always been the result of collective experiences within a circle of friends, artists or bohemians, transcending the opposition between collective and individual in a lifestyle and cinema detached from the dominant social norms. With Michel Nedjar, Gaël Badaud and Jakobois, all three filmmakers, they have been practicing film as a "gang" since 1977, exchanging ideas and cameras in a form of improvised cinema under the ironic name of La MétroBarbès-Rochechou'Art, in reference to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio. They regularly screen their films in joint programmes, but it is from 1981 that they take this work further by making two collective films: 4 to 4, subtitled Trans/Film/Transes (1981-83) and Grappe d'yeux (1982-83).
