Teo Hernández was born on December 23, 1939 in Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico. After studying architecture, he and a friend founded the C.E.C. (Centro Experimental de Cinematografia) in Mexico City. In 1960, the French Institute of Latin America financed the group's first project, a documentary that remained unfinished.
He moved to Paris in 1966. From 1968 to 1975, he made 8mm and Super 8 films in London, Paris, Morocco and Denmark. Then, accompanied by Michel Nedjar with whom he shot MICHEL LÀ-BAS in Morocco, he travelled for six years in India, Nepal, Greece... On his return to Paris, he directed SALOMÉ (1976), which is reminiscent of the spirit of Oscar Wilde. He met Gaël Badaud, with whom he began a long series of collaborations in which elements of his own life were incorporated into the films. In 1977, he made CRISTO, part of a tetralogy on passion with CRISTAUX, LACRIMA CRISTI and GRAAL. In 1980, with his friends (Nedjar, Jakobois and Badaud), he founded the MétroBarbèsRochechou Art group.
"Until his death in 1992, Teo continued to create a body of work inextricably linked to his life. His life and work were meticulously recorded in his diary and in the preparatory files for his films.
