Screening introduced by Luciano Piazza
Filmmaker, critic and programmer Luciano Piazza presents a program of experimental films from Latin American filmmakers spanning from the mid-1960s until the early 1980s. Unlike much of Latin American film production at that time, these films were not conceived as a collective pan-American project. Instead, the artists presented here were, and are, mostly working within intimate, personal contexts, in formats ranging from 35mm to 16mm and Super 8.
Stemming from the research project and film series Ism, Ism, Ism: Experimental Cinema in Latin America, which Luciano Piazza undertook with Jesse Lerner in 2017, this program aims to further explore the boldness and originality that flourished in Latin American experimental cinema during this period, even within often tense and hostile political contexts.
