JEANNE LIOTTA (NYC) makes films, moving image installations, projector performances and other primarily lens-based works. Her cosmic cinema is a lively mix of art, science and natural philosophy, produced through photographing celestial events, researching the SciVis archive, and working experientially with time, light and motion. She has been making work for over 3 decades, including her signature 16mm film of the night skies, Observando El Cielo (2007), which received  the Tiger Award  or Short Film at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, among many others. Exhibitions include The Whitney Biennial,  The New York Film Festival, Flaherty NYC, Crossroads Festival, Experiments in Cinema New Mexico, ICA London, Museo Nitsch in Naples Italy, The Wexner Center for the Arts, The McCormick Observatory, The Walker Arts Center, and The Menil Foundation. . Her works are collected by The Museum of Modern Art NY, The Vienna Film Museum, Harvard and Duke Universities. Liotta researched the Joseph Cornell Film Collection at Anthology Film Archives for many years, authoring a monograph “Joseph Cornell: Films” published by San Francisco Cinematheque, and has more recently published an essay in Millennium Film Journal  “Enter Germs, Enter the World: Hand processing artists films in the AIDS era” She is a Professor Emerita of Moving Image Arts from the University of Colorado Boulder where she directed the graduate program in Film, and is Associate Chair of Moving Image for the Bard MFA Program in NY. . Her films are distributed by Lightcone, Paris and her work is represented by Microscope Gallery, New York.
