LIGHT CONE CELEBRATES ITS 40TH ANNIVERSARY

This year, Light Cone celebrates its 40th anniversary with multiple guest programs, screenings, performances, discussions and festivities throughout 2022. The core of the celebrations will take place from Thursday, June 9th to Sunday, June 19th, 2022, in Paris. We hope to see you there!

THE HIGHLIGHTS

SCRAPBOOK | GALERIE RUE ANTOINE (PARIS 18th)
June 9th - 29th
An exhibition to mark the publication of Scrapbook (an image book), a Light Cone Editions editorial project, bringing together artworks by Light Cone’s filmmaker members. The opening will take place on June 9th.

FERNAND LÉGER AND HIS INSPIRATIONS | LA RUCHE (PARIS 15th)
June 13th
An open-air screening in the gardens of La Ruche of a program of films composed around Fernand Léger’s Le Ballet Mécanique.

TELLURIC FORCES | LUMINOR – HÔTEL DE VILLE (PARIS 4th)
June 14th
A double program on the theme of the Earth’s natural forces, with films by Stan Brakhage, David Dudouit, Philippe Cote, Olivier Fouchard, Paulo Abreu, Emmanuel Lefrant, Florian Fischer & Johannes Krell, Jacques Perconte, Madi Piller, Nathaniel Dorsky, Phil Solomon and Esther Urlus.

DAÏCHI SAÏTO IN FOCUS | LUMINOR – HÔTEL DE VILLE (PARIS 4th)
June 15th
An evening dedicated to the work of Daïchi Saïto, including his most recent film earthearthearth, in the filmmaker’s presence.

ROUND TABLE & SCREENING | LE BAL (PARIS 18th)
June 16th
A round table on contemporary and future modes of circulation of experimental cinema, followed by a screening of Soft Fiction by Chick Strand, in connection with the exhibition of the work of Judith Roy Ross.

SCRATCH EXPANDED #10 | LES VOÛTES (PARIS 13e)
June 17th - 18th
10th anniversary edition of Scratch Expanded. On the program: open-air screenings, installations and expanded cinema performances. Invited artists: Bruce McClure, Metamkine, Gaëlle Rouard, Viktoria Schmid, Guy Sherwin & Lynn Loo, Vicky Smith, among others.

LES BOÎTES DE LA NUIT | LA STATION – GARE DES MINES (PARIS 18th)
June 19th
Closing night with Les boîtes de la nuit (The Clubs of the Night), an ephemeral and festive event with the artists Marie Cambois, Lottus Eddé Khouri, Gaëlle Rouard, Christophe Cardoen, Jérôme Noetinger, Yan Beigbeder et Guillaume Laidain.

GERMAINE DULAC RETROSPECTIVE | LA CINÉMATHÈQUE FRANÇAISE (PARIS 12th)
June 16th-30th
Light Cone joins forces with the French Cinémathèque to pay tribute to Germaine Dulac, feminist pioneer of the French cinematographic avant-garde of the 1920s, with a retrospective of her films. The program includes an opening screening (La Fête espagnole and La Folie des vaillants) presented by Tami Williams, film historian; a projection of the restored print of The Seashell and the Clergyman presented by Gisèle Rapp-Meichler, president of Light Cone; and a program of "pure cinema" curated and presented by Emmanuel Lefrant, director of Light Cone.

A series of guest programs and tributes to Light Cone have been organized throughout the year on the occasion of its 40th anniversary: in November 2021, the series of programs 40 Years of Light Cone, Activating the Cinema curated by yann beauvais at the Sevilla European Film Festival (SEFF); February 3rd, the Scratch screening Cette tempête est ce que nous appelons le progrès (This Storm Is What We Call Progress), curated by Miles McKane; March 26th and 27th, a Light Cone program presented by Emmanuel Lefrant, along with a retrospective of Cécile Fontaine at Vidéodrome 2 (Marseille); April 6th, a Light Cone program presented by Emmanuel Lefrant at MuMaBoX of the André Malraux Modern Art Museum (Le Havre); April 12th, Paysages palpitants (Palpitating landscapes), a selection of films from the Atelier 105 residency program presented by Eleni Gioti as part of the Épisodes series at Monoquini (Bordeaux); April 28th to May 8th, a series of programs dedicated to Light Cone at the festival IndieLisboa (Lisbon); May 6th, a guest program of Light Cone films presented by Mariya Nikiforova at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen; May 27th to 29th, a Light Cone guest program and a Focus on the work of Emmanuel Lefrant at Fracto Festival (Berlin); July 9th, a guest program of Light Cone films presented by Eleni Gioti and Mariya Nikiforova at Cinéma Le Méliès (Montreuil); September 22nd to October 10th, exhibition of Scrapbook at the French Institute of Zagreb and, on September 23rd, Emmanuel Lefrant's participation in the symposium Analogue Film in the Digital Age, as part of the 25FPS Festival (Zagreb) ; on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October 2022, Soft Dreams, carte blanche to Light Cone presented by Emmanuel Lefrant at FestCurtasBH (Festival Internacional de Curtas de Belo Horizonte, Brésil); from November 19 to December 4, 2022, as part of OVNi Festival, the EAC (Espace d'Art Concret à Mouans-Sartoux, Alpes Maritimes) hosts Chemin des Pixels #2, an installation where video works from Light Cone's collection will be exhibited.
